LTANT 2025 Annual Conference

Friday 22 August 2025
Alice Springs Language Centre

The LTANT 2025 Annual Conference, held on Friday 22 August at the Alice Springs Language Centre, was a great success. We were honoured to welcome Keynote Speaker Andrew Scrimgeour (Research Fellow, University of South Australia). Presenters delivered sessions aligned with the theme “Technology as a Transformative Tool in the Modern Language Classroom” and explored topics including AI, behaviour management, assessment tools, and Smart Reports.

A highlight of the conference was a special awards ceremony celebrating Janet McCormack, a local Arrernte language educator. Together with her family and colleagues, participants recognised her outstanding contribution to supporting students in engaging with their language and culture, as she was presented with the the National Patji Dawes Language Teachers Award.

Indonesian teachers gathering, where Ibu Lasmi taught us how to make the Indonesian sweet Klepon, was a great success. During the process, participants considered which vocabulary to use and how to engage students and the teachers actively took part in cooking. Of course, everyone enjoyed tasting the delicious Klepon together.

Wednesday 30 July 2025
Darwin Languages Centre

LTANT aims to support its members in developing skills to manage language activities with student groups and to foster stronger collaboration among language educators. This event offered an excellent opportunity to observe real classroom practices, rather than just reading about them in textbooks or hearing about them in presentations. Throughout the day, various teachers prepared and delivered lessons that other educators could observe.
