This professional development workshop explored ways to engage students in language learning by giving them choice and ownership. Participants experienced hands-on strategies to promote motivation, responsibility, and participation. The session supported reflective and innovative teaching aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Teach-Meets are informal opportunities for teachers to gather and share resources and effective strategies for the languages classroom. In the session, our wonderful language teachers shared a strategy or resources, and took the time to listen to and learn from one another.
LTANT 2025 Annual Conference

Alice Springs Language Centre
The LTANT 2025 Annual Conference, held on Friday 22 August at the Alice Springs Language Centre, was a great success. We were honoured to welcome Keynote Speaker Andrew Scrimgeour (Research Fellow, University of South Australia). Presenters delivered sessions aligned with the theme “Technology as a Transformative Tool in the Modern Language Classroom” and explored topics including AI, behaviour management, assessment tools, and Smart Reports.
A highlight of the conference was a special awards ceremony celebrating Janet McCormack, a local Arrernte language educator. Together with her family and colleagues, participants recognised her outstanding contribution to supporting students in engaging with their language and culture, as she was presented with the the National Patji Dawes Language Teachers Award.

Indonesian Teachers Gathering
Memasak Klepon

Indonesian teachers gathering, where Ibu Lasmi taught us how to make the Indonesian sweet Klepon, was a great success. During the process, participants considered which vocabulary to use and how to engage students and the teachers actively took part in cooking. Of course, everyone enjoyed tasting the delicious Klepon together.

LTANT aims to support its members in developing skills to manage language activities with student groups and to foster stronger collaboration among language educators. This event offered an excellent opportunity to observe real classroom practices, rather than just reading about them in textbooks or hearing about them in presentations. Throughout the day, various teachers prepared and delivered lessons that other educators could observe.

This webinar, hosted by the Australian Teacher of Media (ATOM), enabled teachers to learn how to make an effective video in order to prepare their students for Language Fest this year.
LTANT invited members to a professional development designed to help teachers guide their students in creating high-quality videos for language contests. Participants learned practical tips to enhance student submissions!
