This session will share the insights from the Workshop on Navigating Challenging Behaviours: Applying Behaviour Theories to Build a Positive Classroom Environment and film editing skills is designed to offer practical, research-informed strategies for addressing common behavioural challenges in the classroom. Drawing on core behavioural theories, the session will explore the four primary functions of behaviour, the ABC (Antecedent–Behaviour–Consequence) model, and evidence-based de-escalation techniques. Participants will also engage with real-life scenarios and take away actionable strategies to foster a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

We are fortunate to have two presenters for this session. Lan Chen, a Chinese language teacher at the Confucius Institute at Charles Darwin University, brings a wealth of experience from both language and physical education contexts, including her current work at Parap Primary School and her facilitation of children’s Tai Chi classes. Yanli Liu will also contribute by sharing a range of practical teaching tools she has collected, followed by a demonstration of basic video editing techniques using JianYing (剪映), guiding participants through the creation of a simple classroom video.
